A Trip Around Yattendon
Inspired by Ken Mee with his video camera we now have a moving picture record of Yattendon Parish landmarks. Set to music, Ken has labeled it “A trip round Yattendon”. You will find it on the grey section of this page. If it doesn't start automatically, press the play button. If this doesn't work you will have to click the 'Download it here' link and then you can follow the simple instructions to load the “FLASH” routine and reboot to run the show. We would welcome your comments on this inclusion as well as any other items you would like to see added to the website.

Could You Help?
The Annual Fete, Parish Planning and the Youth Club, just three of the many activities for which the Parish is well known could not flourish without the help of enthusiastic volunteers. If you are not already one of these willing helpers, could you spare a little of your time to lend a hand. Just call any of those listed in the Contacts Section of this site to make living in Yattendon Parish even better.

Indoor Short Mat Bowls
Although the Short Mat Bowls sessions held in Yattendon Village Hall have been suspended, there continues to be a thriving group playing at Chieveley Village Hall. They meet on Monday afternoons and most Thursday evenings. Any interested performers are welcome to contact Brian Bicknell, telephone no. 01635 248456.

Welcome

The population of the Parish i.e. Burnt Hill and Yattendon totalled 378 in the most recent census. Of these 81 were under the age of 18 and 91 were aged 60 plus. The Parish has an elderly population, 24% aged 60 plus compared with the national average of 21%.

The recent questionnaire responses indicated that there is widespread contentment with the natural environment of the Parish. A wide range of reasons quoted were quietness (despite the noise from the M4 at times), family connections, employment and convenience for retirement.

The Parish today is probably more outward looking than at any time in it's long history. Farming, forestry and estate work are still important - it is the headquarters of Yattendon Estates Ltd. but many of the Parishioners travel daily to work in Reading, Newbury and even further afield.

With its village store and post office, village hall, butchers, hairdressers, restaurant/pub, church, chapel, social club and youth club Yattendon Parish operates as a centre for surrounding areas. Taken altogether, the Parish is a stimulating and interesting place to visit and indeed to live in.
